There’s no smartwatch which can directly communicate with the Dexcom G6 or G5 transmitter. So if you are still in search for it, then we’re sorry, you won’t be able to find one. Because, that’s not how it works, the transmitter exchanges data with your smartphone which in return sends data to your smartwatch.
There used to be time when one had to walk into a hospital or a clinic for monitoring glucose levels and now you have smart CGM devices like the Dexcom G6 which continuously monitors (real-time) the glucose levels in your body.
However, before you begin shopping for a smartwatch, you’ll need to know that it won’t be communicating with the Dexcom G5 or G6 transmitter. The transmitter will be communicating with your smartphone. It also means that you will only get updates on your smartwatch when your smartphone is connected to both (the transmitter and the smartwatch.) So say, if you go for a walk but forget your smartphone at your home, then you might not receive notifications on your smartwatch.

Dexcom G6 Smartwatch Requirements
According to the official website post, The following smartwatches with the below mentioned criteria are compatible. When it comes to compatibility, make sure that your device meets the minimum OS version because Google would keep updating the WearOS and soon after 2.0 there’ll be 3.0. That won’t mean that the upcoming version won’t be compatible with the Dexcom G6. It’ll be for sure compatible!
- Google WearOS (1.0 till 2.0)
- WatchOS 3.0 to 5.2.1.
- Android Wear OS (2.0 to 2.9)
Google rebranded the Android Wear OS to WearOS in 2018 and that’s the reason why we’ve mentioned WearOS and Android Wear OS separately in the criteria. The version of WatchOS mentioned is 3.0 to 5.2.1. However, the latest version is 5.3.1 that doesn’t mean that the Dexcom G6 won’t work the the latest version (5.3.1), it’ll work, so just like I mentioned above, make sure that your device has the minimum required version.

The Verdict
Like mentioned multiple times above, The smartwatches listed here won’t directly pair with the Dexcom G6, but it will connect with your smartphone which will again stay connected to the Dexcom G6 transmitter to get updates on the glucose levels.
We don’t want to disappoint you, but if you still are looking for a smartwatch which will directly communicate with the transmitter, then there’s no smartwatch in the market which can, but there’s a lot of buzz in the market and there could be a possibility that you can have a watch which would be directly in connection with the CGM by end of 2021. However, for now, if you are looking for a WearOS or WatchOS smartwatch which goes well with Dexcom G5, G6 then you can choose any of the watches from the above list!
The TeckFlock staff members have been using the Fossil Gen 4 with the Dexcom G6. However, Females in the team have a soft corner for the Kate Spade Scallop watch too. All the watches mentioned above are really great when it comes to performance, stability, reliability and build-quality. However, there can’t be one best, that’s why this list includes products which are suitable for everyone and the best one would be dependent on the person who’s going to use it.
Someone who loves premium can go with Tag Heuer which costs huge and has a lot of features, but someone who prefers an elegant design with features and won’t cost much like the Tag Heuer Modular 45 can go with Emporio Armani smartwatches! So at the end, it’s all about user preference, we’ve analyzed multiple users and have made this list!

The Apple smartwatches don’t work with Android phones, so if you don’t have an iPhone you should probably get a different watch. Currently, the Fossil Gen 5 seems to be a really great choice and works really best with the Dexcom G6 (I bought it for my father too!)
This list is great, thank you for creating it. I tried a Fossil smartwatch two years ago, (not for my CGM), and was disappointed. The battery life then was terrible. It would not stay charge more than 16-18 hours at a time. Unless they fixed that issue I can only imagine the power drain from a constant Bluetooth connection. I belong to a group that mentions the Ticwatch on a regular basis and have yet to hear any major complaints. I may give that a try. Thanks again!
Fossil Gen 4 used to have issues, I did experience it back then, but after the update they sent over, it has been quite smooth. In fact, The Fossil Gen 5 is already available at a really fair price which really is smooth and has a better battery life! Ticwatch is great too! Afterall, Best varies from person to person! 🙂
Will dexcom work with apple Watch using an Android Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or does it have to be used with an apple phone
No Anna, The Apple watch won’t work with Android devices. I think I’ve not mentioned about that in the post, I’ll try to include it in the article so that it could be helpful to other devices. Therefore, if you own a Note 8 and are looking for a watch that’ll connect with Dexcom G6, then you’ll need a Non Apple watch.

Do you have any idea if the Samsung Active 2 will eventually work with the G6? Just bought it for ECG function ( available 2020) so not looking to buy another watch, but if I have to, probably fo cheaper with Fossil watches; what do you think?

It isn’t going to work, it’s because Dexcom G6 requires
– Google WearOS (1.0 till 2.0)
– WatchOS 3.0 to 5.2.1.
– Android Wear OS (2.0 to 2.9)
However, the Samsung Galaxy Active 2 is based out of Tizen OS which makes it non-compatible! I think you’ll have to wait for Dexcom to start supporting them, but for now, I think the models I’ve listed here should be a good choice for your needs!

Yeah, crap. Just bought the TicWatch e2, actually. Really nice watch but cant get sleep tracking working on it, so using Samsung Active 2 at night and Ticwatch during day to watch blood sugars, which works well.

Is Dexcom G6 compatible with Garmin ?
I use the dexcom g6 and would love to view the data on a smartwatch. Dexcom integrates with the Samsung galaxy s7, s7+, s8 and s8+ phones. However, neither my current Samsung galaxy s7 active phone nor my new Samsung galaxy s8 active phone are on the dexcom supported list. The active versions were designed for the military and have a rugged integrated case. I thought that all s7 variants are more or less the same and similarly all the s8 variants are as well. So I do not understand why some variants are supported and others are not. I put the question to dexcom tech support a few months ago, but so far no answer. Could you advise or help? Until the active versions of the phones are supported, I cannot use a smartwatch to follow my readings.
